A uniquely planned double-height bedroom redesigned into a functional, warm, and structured space with a mezzanine study, slanted ceiling, and thoughtfully balanced design elements.

This bedroom came with an unusual challenge: a 20-foot height and a layout that made the space feel disconnected and difficult to use. The client was worried about how to segregate functions without making the room feel overwhelming. To solve this, we reimagined the entire layout by dividing the vertical volume smartly. More than half of the space accommodates the bedroom. The remaining space accommodates a closet and bathroom, while the upper section of the same space is transformed into a cozy mezzanine study and work area, accessible yet visually separate.
To handle the excessive height, we introduced a slanted ceiling that begins from the mezzanine and gently slopes down toward the bedroom zone. This not only reduces the perceived height but also gives the room a bold architectural character. The angle of the ceiling inspired the grooved wall punning design, where slanted and vertical lines mirror its direction, creating a cohesive geometry throughout the room without relying heavily on wood paneling.
The bed unit is designed on a warm wooden platform, adding grounding and proportion to the tall space. Behind it, a curved veneer panel acts as both a visual anchor and a soft divider between the bedroom area and the closet–bathroom zone. The playful pop of teal upholstery, paired with warm wooden tones and layered neutrals, brings balance and a calm energy to the double-height volume.
The tall walls allowed us to experiment with long, vertical textured panels, accent lighting, and dramatic curtains that enhance height while keeping the space visually soft. On the mezzanine, we created a serene workspace with built-in storage and a comfortable sitting corner that overlooks the room below, making efficient use of every inch of height.
Despite its complexity, this room was transformed into a functional, structured, and visually unique space turning a challenging layout into a thoughtfully designed environment that feels both modern and personal.
